J & M Everything Drains is John Haire, working out of Fairview Street in Barre, Washington County. Twenty-five years in the trade, all of it in Vermont: service technician work, a pump truck, jetting, camera and locating. Everything to do with drains, as he puts it.
Most people call on the worst morning they have had in a while. Something has backed up, there is water where there should not be, and no one in the house understands why. That is the part worth explaining, because a customer who knows what went wrong can make a decision instead of agreeing to whatever they are told.
It is one van and one person. You talk to John on the phone, John comes to the door, and John does the work, so no one shows up cold to a job they have not heard about.

John put it this way on his questionnaire, and it is a better statement of the business than anything we could write for him:

In practice that means telling you what he found in plain terms, telling you what it will cost before starting, and telling you when the answer is that it does not need doing yet. No one gets sold a jetting job that a cable would have fixed.

The shop is in Barre and the work runs across the Barre and Montpelier corridor and the towns around it: Barre, Montpelier, Berlin, Northfield, Williamstown, Waterbury. Weekday hours are 8 to 4, and the same number reaches John outside them.
An emergency line is only worth having if the person answering it is twenty minutes away, and from Fairview Street most of Washington County is.

John. J & M Everything Drains is one owner-operator, so the person who takes your call is the person who does the work. No one gets handed off, and no one arrives without knowing what the job is.
